The engagement event aims to connect communities and showcase military capabilities.

The Air Force Special Warfare Training Wing (SWTW) at Joint Base San Antonio-Chapman Training Annex represents the cutting edge of combat readiness, producing elite Airmen prepared for high-risk global operations.

The JBSA-Chapman Training Annex, named after Medal of Honor recipient Master Sgt. John A. Chapman, is the Air Force’s premier training site for Special Warfare candidates. Airmen here undergo intense training designed to build physical and mental endurance for extreme environments.

With a mission to assess, select and develop ground combat forces that specialize in global access, precision strike and personnel recovery, the SWTW focuses on producing lethal Airmen who will ensure the nation’s security on the ground, in the water, and in the sky. The wing’s emphasis on lethality and readiness ensures that Airmen can deploy rapidly, adapt quickly and perform decisively in any theater of conflict.

“Our training equips candidates with the skills and mindset to succeed in dynamic, unpredictable combat scenarios,” said U.S. Air Force Col. Nathan Colunga, SWTW commander. “We’re building warriors who are ready to deter war and, if necessary, win the nation’s wars.”

The unit continually evolves to meet modern warfare challenges by integrating the latest technology, strategy and tactical innovations into its curriculum.

A career in Air Force Special Warfare offers unmatched opportunities for those driven by purpose, teamwork, and an unrelenting will to serve. Potential candidates can visit specialwarfaretw.af.mil or afspecwar.com or contact their local recruiter to begin the process.

Community members can experience the capabilities of these elite warriors firsthand at the upcoming Great Texas Freedom Fest on April 12, 2025, from 3 to 9:30 p.m. at JBSA-Fort Sam Houston. The free event will feature live demonstrations, interactive exhibits and opportunities to engage with Special Warfare Airmen. Details are available at jbsa.mil.

“This demonstration is designed to showcase some of the unique capabilities that Air Force Special Warfare Airmen provide to the Joint Force,” said U.S. Air Force Staff Sgt. Patrick Mojica, 353rd Special Warfare Training Squadron, Falcon Flight instructor. “The public rarely has a chance to observe and understand the intensity of the operations we experience on the battlefield; our team is excited to give the City of San Antonio and JBSA a small glimpse into our reality.”

Air Force Special Warfare remains a powerful testament to the service’s commitment to readiness, excellence and mission success—shaping Airmen ready to lead in the world’s most demanding operations.
